On March 26, 2015, The TASA Group in conjunction with national school safety experts Brad Paddock and Dale Yeager, presented a free, one-hour interactive webinar presentation, Sandy Hook - Liability and Special Education, for all legal professionals.
This presentation discussed three key issues related to safety and security problems with special needs students in elementary, middle and high schools:
1. Lack of accurate understanding of federal law regarding special education
2. Safety Issues: A management issue
3. Poor management of students: The real problem
About the Presenters:
Brad Paddock is a veteran teacher, special educator and school administrator working in both private and public residential and educational institutions over the past 34 years. He has many years of experience as a first responder with numerous qualifications and certifications including New York State Fire Instructor for the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. He is an appointed member of the staff of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, as well as Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC).
Mr. Paddock is a coordinator of the Special Education Training & Resource Center (SETRC) for the New York State Department of Education Vocational Educational Services to Individuals with Disabilities (VESID). This includes review of district compliance with state and federal IDEA regulation, facilitation of strategic planning, development of Comprehensive System of Professional Development (CSPD) plans, development and delivery of staff development programs in classroom management, special education instruction, and child abuse reporting requirements.
Dale Yeager has a career in forensics spanning 22 years. He had advanced training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Yeager’s research work on violence has been published in the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin and Profiling Violent Crimes by Dr. Ronald Holmes. Mr. Yeager is a frequent expert with media outlets including a featured episode of Forensic Files. Mr. Yeager is an instructor for the Neumann University Criminal Justice Program.
In 2002, Mr. Yeager was given a presidential appointment to the U.S. Selective Service System and in 2004, he became a member of the FBI’s InfraGard program. Mr. Yeager is also a Federal Law Enforcement trainer for the HIDTA and MAGLOCLEN programs. Mr. Yeager has over 30,000 U.S. school clients.
