About the Expert:
Dr. Vicki Mahan is a board-certified thoracic surgeon. She is the assistant professor of surgery and chief of pediatric cardiovascular surgery as well as the co-director of the hospital heart center. Her expertise includes valve repair and aortic surgery, brain protection during hypothermic circulatory arrest, neonatal myocardial protection, fetal pacemakers and cardiac transplant. In her free time, Dr. Mahan is a judo student, competitor, teacher, and mentor as well as a coach and referee. Her main responsibility in judo is to “grow people.” In addition, she works with teenagers and young adults in defining their career and professional goals and has recommended multiple judo students for scholarships and college education.
